Conserving wild salmon and steelhead habitat on Washington's Olympic Peninsula is the driver behind “The Salmon Coast”—a new film from Shane Anderson. Projects detailed here will help open up hundreds of miles of water to incoming fish. The other key part of the recipe: Ensuring that there are still fish around to populate that habitat. “We can restore all the habitat in the world. But if the fish aren’t making it… it’s not doing any of us any good,” says Jessica Helsley of the Coast Salmon Partnership, who suggests increasing escapement goals to keep more fish out of the nets, to let more of them reach the redds. “We need to work together to do that.”
