Forgotten Coast Invitational

APALACHICOLA, FL—Partnered with The Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, and Dr. Jerry Ault, Director of the Tarpon and Bonefish research center, the Forgotten Coast tarpon tagging tournament is a first of its kind, fly-only event aimed at science and conservation. The placement of state-of-the-art SPOT and PAT satellite tags is the contest’s main objective.

"Through the vehicle of a tournament, Dr. Ault and his team will work with the area’s top guides and their participating charter anglers in a group effort to safely attach tags to mature migratory tarpon.  “Camaraderie and Conservation’ is the motto that will represent our event. The contest will be a chance for our area’s passionate tarpon anglers and guides to converge and celebrate the sport. Unlike tarpon tournaments before it, the FCI’s foremost objective will be tagging tarpon. With no line class restrictions, the fish will be caught, tagged and released without fighting them to exhaustion. With a field of 17 guide/angler teams, and 3 tagging boats covering 30 miles of coast, this event will be the largest tagging effort of it’s kind to date. Our tagging boats will be manned and coordinated by Dr. Jerry Ault and his team of researchers."
