For those following the High Park wildfire outside of Fort Collins, containment is coming full circle and looks like our backyard Poudre River is—at least for now—back in business. According to Forest Service officials, Highway 14 has been reopened. Big thanks to our local fire crews and Red Cross workers who've had their hands full with this 86,000+ acre burn.
Via St. Peter's Fly Shop: "Great news to announce! As of 12’ noon Hwy 14 will reopen for the first time in over 3 weeks. The Poudre Canyon will be open all the way from Teds place to Walden. Please be aware and very cautious that there will still be hot spots, particularly through the middle part of the canyon. We have not been up the canyon yet so we don’t know how the fire affected the river in the burn area. What we can tell you is that the Upper Poudre River is unaffected by the fire and will be fishing excellent. There are a ton of PMD’s, Yellow Sallies, Caddis and even a few Drakes out and about. Take advantage of the un-fished water and be thankful that we still have more than half the canyon to fish."
