The Boogie Down

Post by crabtops » Sun Apr 03, 2011 12:39 pm

I've been anticipating my first trip of the year for weeks now. Friday night I sat at the vice and tied up some flies designed for early season. I wanted some thing small with a lot of natural movement that would push water and be easily noticed. I came up with this;
zonker, marabou, and a spun deer head

Got my flies together, grabbed the essentials and hit the road.

You might not know about these unless you live in the SW or a Mexican neighborhood. They're kind of like pork rinds, they're addictive as hell but they tear your mouth up worse than captain crunch.

Isn't fishing in the Bronx awesome.
What up Richie? I see you.

I wasn't expecting much considering we've had three days of rain and temps that didn't get out of the 40's all week . My suspicions were confirmed. For one, I missed the productive tide having arrived for the last hour of the outgoing.

Gives new meaning to brown lining. Brown tar heroin anyone?

After test swimming some new flies I packed up and hit another spot

On the trail in I stumbled on a NYC forrest fire, a real scorcher.

Totally unexpected and pretty cool to see.

Heard the sirens and because I was packing contraband I didn't feel like being interviewed

Really cool report. I thought that was interesting. Reminds me of where I grew up.

Ha, nice to know some things never change. Used to hit some spots near Co-Op city when I lived down that way.

Never had to ride the train in my waders, although I've heard of it being done.

Right when I was getting into the saltwater stuff my truck died. I was in utter despair when I found in the neighborhood of my work a beat up old station wagon, a 1978 Chevy Impala wagon the only thing missing was the wood panels, with a for sale sign on it$500 or best offer.

Best $300 I ever spent and most important fishing gear purchase I've ever made. That thing got me to the water and got me to my first striped bass. I miss that old beast.

It's good to see an urban TR like this, especially interesting to us who've never lived in a big city. Hell, I never rode in a cab or a train (that wasn't attacked by fake indians) until I was in my 20s.
It makes me scratch my head the thought of living in such a population-dense area and being a FlyFisher or Woodsman and how do you get your fix? Great flies, btw and post up some more urbanTRs hopefully with some fishes to help us shire dwellers wrap our minds around it. :cool

If by system you mean an am/fm with a broken antenna then, yes.

With the seats down two people and a dog could sleep fully laid out though.
