ATHENS, Tenn. (AP) — An East Tennessee man driving a lawn mower in the road has been charged with DUI. Athens police said 30-year-old Jimmy Graham Jr. smelled like alcohol and failed a sobriety test Monday after an officer spotted him on the lawn mower. He told the officer he had consumed a beer and taken a stress reliever prescribed to him.

A jailer said Graham was in custody Tuesday and there was no record of him having a lawyer.

The Daily Post-Athenian in Athens reported that Graham was also charged with aggravated burglary and theft under $500.

A police report shows Graham told the officer he had stopped by a house to pick up some fishing poles. Police said the man who lives at the house where Graham had stopped on the mower told police the fishing poles were stolen from his garage.

Well, if your going to try to pass a fake $1,000,000 bill, a Walmart in Lexington is about as good odds as your going to get...... Jus sayin.

ASHEVILLE — City police arrested a 43-year-old man after he pawned a torch used in the Atlanta Olympics.

Brian Edward McDonald, 43, of Asheville, was charged with felony larceny and obtaining property by false pretense for stealing a torch used in the 1996 games from another man.
The torch was valued at $15,000.
He sold it at Alan’s Jewelry and Pawn for $200, according to court papers.
He was released on a written promise to appear for a court hearing on Jan. 3.

Tennesseans...we are geniuses:

Man tries to avoid arrest in women’s clothes
Thursday, January 7th, 2010

It amazes me the lengths that a criminal will go to in order to avoid being caught. If they could only put that effort into an honest job they’d not be the subjects of our weird news.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Knoxville police have arrested a man they said assaulted an officer and then changed into women’s clothing in an attempt to disguise himself. The Knoxville News Sentinel reported a 19-year-old man was arrested Monday night on charges including DUI, assault on an officer, resisting arrest and burglary. He also has four outstanding warrants.

Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said the suspect assaulted Officer Andrew Gyorfi after the teen was pulled over at about 8 p.m. for driving a car that had been reported stolen in Chattanooga. He then ran to a nearby public housing project and entered a woman’s apartment, putting on her clothes and leaving his there.

He was arrested about two hours later while walking down the street wearing women’s shoes, pants and jacket.

Davidson County deputies said a couple accused of stealing property led them on a high speed chase before being arrested.
Deputies responded to a breaking and entering call on Monday along Joyce Drive near Gumtree Road.
They said the suspects left the scene in a silver Ford F-150, and when deputies attempted to pull them over, a chase ensued. The pursuit ended at Horneytown Road near Wallburg.
Deputies arrested Earl Messer, 25, and Natasha Hennings, 29.
