A weekend w/o the wimenz.

Post by TX. » Sun Sep 09, 2012 11:08 pm

[report]Alex (10 YO) has been wanting to spend some one-on-one together for a while now. His sisters have been driving him nuts. So a couple of months ago we attempted to sign up for a father-son weekend camp...place was full. He said that was ok, all he wanted to do was fish, anything else was a bonus. So I set aside this weekend for us to go camping at the "hog farm" so he could catch trout until his arms fell off.
Well last week my wife informed me that there was an opening for the camp this weekend, so off we went. Alex asking if there was fishing, me telling him we can fish on Sunday when we get home or if he wants to leave early we will (this was his weekend).
Upon our arrival, the place looked ok to me:

Then the wife calls to see what we think of the place, and asks if the cabin is nice. "Meh, it'll do for a weekend, we've stayed in worse", I say.

"Dad, what's that blob???!!!"
"Well, it's called the blob. You jump from that deck and shoot people into the air."
"Cool! Can we do it?!"
"Sure, son."

"So this is where the repelling is, huh dad?"

I (if he was game) was planning on heading home on Saturday night so I could flytie before our fishing on Sunday, but my wife had a surprise for me which wasn't quite finished, so we stayed another night.

Woke up to revelry at 0:700 and grabbed some grub, loaded the S2k, and headed back south.

We roll into the house at 0:10 00 to find that my lovely bride was attempting a complete bathroom remod including tub and tile...in one weekend (I'm sorry, but I can't show pictures of what I walked into)...I give her kudos, she tried, though.

After tying a few dozen bugs today that we had to have for this and constantly being pestered by his 7 YO sister, I neglected to bring...the box I filled and "only fly box we needed today", so we made due...and he fished.

Never had a weekend like that with my father...never. He won't soon forget it.
Better be putting together one hell of a plan to survive this clusterfuck.

[report]...Before we had to roll home this evening, he hung out on a hot rock in the sun to dry off and reflect (doubt it).
And I asked him what his favorite part of the weekend was...Blob?, belt making?, survival bracelet making?, blob?, swimming?, fishing?

"No dad, all of it...was beyond awesome. Thanks."
