Fuk it is still cold,

This...Remember what neoprene did in such weather? You walked like you had a load in your pants and it took an hour of driving before you could untie your laces!

How true is that?
Ya know what though...just 1 chromer changes everything.

When do you want to go? Need a day above freezing and we can float it if you want.

Pedorro, only made that mistake once with a pair of neoprenes.

Had to get out and beat winter storm "Plato" or it was going to be a long few days without any fishing. I can bear the cold but the projected 40+ mph winds and more snow will shut me out. I messaged my buddy Tom from Harrison Anglers to see if he wanted to float Friday morning and he replied with a definite. A night out on Valentine's Day with too much liquid didn't make it easy to get up at 0500 to make the 1.5 hr ride out to the river. However getting up for fishing is something I do well. Besides these temps would help clear my head

Heading up Rt 2 West I was able to get a nice glimpse of the sun rising behind me. Always builds the anticipation as I know I am headed in the right direction.

Met up with Tom and left my Jeep down river. Drove up to the put in and had a nice slope of snow to slide the raft down.

There was a scheduled water shut off from 7-10 am but they had not done that. However a quick check and it looked like they were now shutting it off for an hour. Left us with very little flow in the upper section. Silver lining was that we could actually see some fish rising. The rises were so sporadic we only gave it a half hearted effort with drys.

River at a low level. Just sort of waiting out the low water and the sun to creep over the mountains. It was cold in that little valley and we could see the warmth ahead.

After a bit the flow was turned on and was game time once again. Landed this nice Brown for the first fish of the day.

Lost another after a bunch of body rolls and landed another not quite as pretty as the last one. Switched it up and threw a streamer for a while as the water had come up and we had some flow but had no return on that effort. Covered some more distance on the river and broke for some lunch.

Not a bad spot for a Friday lunch break,

Chicken salad from the local farmer's market.

After lunch we switched it up and threw on a zonker. This impressive looking Brown decided he wanted some of that meat.

After that Brown this little guy wanted some meat.

Switched up the patterns again and got another Brown on the pink worm. Then we threw some more streamers to finish out the day to no avail.

Trains leaving time to go.

Sunset on the way home overlooking the river.

Dales pounders, a nice sandwich and floating an open river in February? Rub it in, why don't you.

A smashing report, that. Perfect balance of script to imagery and a fine fucking sandwich! Was that a bread and butter nestled in there or a dill chip? I believe it's time for dinner just now. Regardless, appears braving the cold paid quite well.
