Got back out.

Maybe it was the front coming in that had the fish all fired up.

I hit the water early in search of musky. I pounded the water for an hour or so before I decided to go downsize to the 7 weight. Musky weren't playin. The heavy tip and floating line was the ticket... really kept the head and running line out of the rocks and got the fly down.

I heard the thunder rolling in the background so I headed home. Just before the storm and hail hit.

Me too. Fred A obviously knows a thing or two about strippers or streamers or streaming strippers or something or other.

Got out again tonight. It's nice having a spot where you can just zone out (alone) and just concentrate on the cast, the fish, the water, whatever... Tonight was pretty cool because it was just me and the sturgeon. They were amped up tonight. Jumping all around me. Sounded like someone dropping boulders in the water all over the place. Had a 5 footer jump right in front of me and then a little later a baby 3 footer brush up against my leg. Something like that used to spook me... it doesn't even phase me anymore. They're all over the place. Just me and the sturgeon. That was pretty much it. Cast the 10 for about an hour in search of musky. I tired of that and switched to the 7 in search of smallies... tied on one of fly-chucker's little go to patterns. I stumbled my way up to the top of the run so I could swing my way back down again. About halfway down I worked the fly through the swing and it settled in along the current seam behind a set of boulders. I started to strip it back up and something blew up on it. I missed the set so I tossed it back. It ate again and this time it came tight. Good fish... and a decent musky at that. There was a little back and forth then I worked her back through the boulders to a calm area. When I got her to hand and got a good look at her she seemed lit up. You know, like the saltwater fish get when they're pumped full of adrenaline? It was cool. Her green and silver was shining bright. I can't believe I landed her. The fly was deep. Had to get the spreaders out and the pliers too. The 12 pound mono was shredded but still one piece. What a fun fish. And a skunk-breaker too. Just me, the sturgeon... and a musky.
