Nevermind. I ask stupid questions. I don't know why.

That looked like a really special trip and report was outstanding.

With constant monitoring of the USGS flows, water temp, upcoming forecast etc. there comes the time every year when you realize your steelhead fishing days are numbered.

In this particular instance; a forecast of single digit temps for god only knows how long, Dan about to fly out to chile for the winter, and a stack of my first medical licensing exam studying material piling higher than I'd like to come to terms with all kinda made me realize this may be the last sha-bang for a while.

We decided a day stripping flies for brown trout and the potential lake run steelfish, along with celebrating the end of our favorite season at the local watering hole afterwards was what was in order.

It was already getting damn cold, and we went a long ways without even seeing a fish. Lunch was in order.

A few hours after lunch, Jason hollered from the back of the boat ' OH FUCK YES"

I looked back to see his rod corked and eventually saw the large torqoise colored dark object rolling in the deep run below us as steelhead always seem to look in the water. The colored up male started jumping and we started hollering like indians. We all said we had never seen a fish in january, in 30-some degree water jump like that.

After a few good runs and me just about jumping in to untangle it out of a logjam J eventually slid the fish into his handmade net.

12 year was then in order.

Then.. well you know.

The morning rain that soaked us began to freeze, and we decided there was no way we could improve on our day. So row out and ride to the local bar we did and clinked our glasses to one phenomenal season.

Sporklife, Balvenie, and a nice fish in a homemade net.

Well done indeed.

More solid work young dudes. Keep getting after it. :cool

Still a decent swing bite with even more solitude through mid February.
