Rumsfeld Not Considering Resigningn By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writern 35 minutes agoWASHINGTON - Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday he hasn't considered resigning despite calls for him to do so by a half dozen retired generals, and that whether he should remain as secretary of defense is up to President Bush.Asked at a Pentagon briefing whether he would consider resigning to ease political pressure on Bush and Republicans in Congress, Rumsfeld said, "No.""The president knows, as I know, there are no indispensable men ... He knows that I serve at his pleasure, and that's that," Rumsfeld said.Rumsfeld spoke several hours after Bush reiterated his support for Rumsfeld. [/img]'m the decider and I decide what's best," Bush told reporters in the Rose Garden as he announced several White House staff changes. "And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."Rumsfeld said he is proud of his five-year tenure of overseeing the Pentagon, through wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and a major restructuring of the armed forces. He suggested that many in the military were naturally resistant to changes."These are important issues that are involved. There's no question about that. Change is difficult. It also happens to be urgently necessary," Rumsfeld said.Under his leadership, he said, the first Marine corps general _ Peter Pace _ has been promoted to the chairmanship of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Many expensive weapons systems have been canceled, like the Crusader mobile artillery system, and many U.S. forces have been brought home from Europe and South Korea.[/img] look back on those decisions and I am proud of them. They caused a lot of ruffles," Rumsfeld said. With the past month, six retired generals have called for Rumsfeld to resign, accusing him of mishandling the Iraq war, ignoring advice of military commanders and having an arrogant management style. In what seemed to be a swipe at such critics, Rumsfeld said, "People who are often talking about what's taking place inside here don't know what's taking place inside here."As to the recent criticism of him from one-time commanders, Rumsfeld said, "We should be reasonably tolerant with respect to things that get said."Asked whether there was any validity to the criticism of him, Rumsfeld said, "Well, you know, I've been hearing all about all of this, and I would prefer to let a little time walk over it.[/img] think that because of the importance of these matters that are being discussed, I'd like to reflect on them a bit," Rumsfeld said.

Yeah - unfortunately it is the only moments that asshole ever has - and in the meantime, young men women fight an impossible war with no way of winning and are losing thier health and souls with it. I saw my nephew after two "tours" over there. He has managed to avoid physical injury, but his eyes haunt me - they were just empty - seems he left the best part of him over there. Breaks my heart. God I hate Rumsfield and all the other inadequate, rich, white momma boys who are killing our countryman, polluting our environment and stealing our land and for nothing more than to retain a deluded, myopic sense of thier own self-importance. How in the hell did they get in office - what the fuck has happened to our country anyways? British Columbia is looking better every day. Actually I have already started the paperwork - seriously - Oh Canada! Oh Canada!Ursus

Well, I for one applaud his impressive ability to stand firm and resolute, and not let things like facts, criticism, feedback, journalism, or the performance of his appointees affect his decisions. Paying attention to these things just makes you weak, and GW IS NOT A WEAK PREZNIT. Here endeth today's lesson.

The thing that kills me is that these guys aren’t all that smart. Can’t we get Hannibal Lector to talk them into swallowing their own tongues? :(

Rummy is a specter and a soul-sucking ghoul. He just needs a fedora and a red and green sweater W. talking about the nucular (sic) option in Iran is pretty scary. Is it '08 yet?

What do want them to do with Iran? I'm sure the idea of going over to play paddy-cake with that loon will be very affective. Wait, better idea: why don't we just pretend that it isn't happening. That's exactly what happened while a little asshole named Hitler was starting to gain momentum in Europe.

It would be nice to do something about Iran, or at least have the capability to do something. As it is now we're so busy fighting "terrorists" that we're gonna have a hard time dealing with real threats.n WT
