At first I just wanted to catch one. The mythical fish.
Finally I caught a kelt while king fishing. It was amazing, like a giant rainbow, so cool.
Then I wanted to catch a lot of fish
I ended up getting a job at a steelhead weir. I had a river to myself with thousands of fish. I was a glutton catching all I could.
Then I wanted to catch a big fish.
I spent a month catching as many fish as I could, until I caught a 38" buck
Now I find myself looking for that fish. The one. That special fish that I'll remember forever.
I have previously travelled to islands in Southeast Alaska three times. Had one hook up total in that time. This year I decided to return to my natal city and keep searching.
Part of the allure for me is the little things, getting there is really half the fun.
Sometimes the little things are quite big
Sometimes the little things are trout
Every time I go to southeast I feel like I'm going home.
And sometimes after years of walking through the woods you stop and see a pair of fish and it all comes together and you find yourself holding a chrome hen with sea lice and more colors than you thought imaginable. Then you get to watch it swim away.
