Well done...

Big thanks to Redchaser for the photo posting shortcut. The site did time out a bunch as I was adding files, more attachments only made it worse. It could be shitty connection on my end but fair warning, save your shit before hitting preview or submit...I learned the hard way.

Wanted to get back before the holiday crowd took over so I bailed out of town last Wednesday afternoon. Left the triple digit heat of the valley behind and headed into the hills. A little road construction, a beer stop, setup camp and 2 hours after leaving town I was back in the meadow.

Came across a pair of prehistoric dinosaur chickens. They were not happy with our intrusion.

As we made our way to the water it became clear why they were so pissed off...

Lots of snow melt still coming into the lake, with no dry land to hang out on I took the god up into the meadow to stop his teeth from chattering. He claimed a few bushes along the way.

I packed light (forgot a bunch of shit) so camp was minimal. Tried out the fancy new coozie I got for my birthday, threw a can of chili in the fire and enjoyed the cool mountain air. I got the inflatable God bed pumped up and called it a night.

The afternoon wind started to kick up so I rowed over to a spot where I wouldn't have to haul the boat too far. Took a walk back to the truck and enjoyed the view.

Met up with one of the crew. Couple other buddies were a couple miles away fishing another drainage. They were all working near by the next day and drove up early to get an evening in.

Evening breeze picked up and took all the bugs off the water and the fish disappeared. After an hour without a sign of life I called it a day. Got on the road, dodged a few Bambi's and watched the temperature rise as I made my way down the hill. Till next time...

A trip about getting...

We've had an unusually normal spring around here, something we haven't seen in quite a few years. Its been a pleasant surprise and a welcome break from the heat that seems to show up earlier every year. Cooler weather and showers rolling in an out the last couple weeks have been a welcome break from the new norm of May 90's. A storm rolled in the the night before we left but the winds looked light and rain don't hurt...

Rookie made it up earlier than I expected, one thing in mind, getting...

Didn't take long to do some getting. I got one more before the rain and wind made wading a bit sketchy.

Expected spring mountain showers...Instead it rained all day...hard...and all night. We grilled up some hot links, broke into the whiskey and stood around the fire in the rain. Soaked and whiskey'd up we called it a night.

The next morning we met up with bacon, again one thing in mind, getting...

Stumps are good...

Browns are good...
A common sight...

Brookies are good too...
Dip in the magic bag, pound the bucket, get...repeat
More hot links for dinner...

Checked in on some spring water while the afternoon winds howled. Moved a few but none to hand.

God wasn't happy he couldn't chase cows in the nearby meadow. Headed back to camp for a cocktail...a siesta...and back to getting.

Rainbows are also good...

Bacon had some obligations the next day and headed home. Rookie stuck around and helped me finish most of the beer and all of the bourbon. He headed back to town in the morning after more hot links and coffee.

In no rush to get back home I put the floating god bed on the water for more getting. I was treated to a light north wind that blew thousands of winged ants onto the lake...Nothing but cruising trout slurping in helpless bugs in every direction...The fish were getting...I picked off a few, I broke off a few. I watched in amazement, rings in every direction... The getting was good.

Got back on the road and dropped into the valley, thought long and hard about turning around...
to this.

Just gonna have to get back soon for more...
