PSA for those with little ones

Post by Spicytuna » Thu Sep 28, 2017 3:23 pm

I just recently found out that my 14 month old son has had a parasite in his system for almost 2 months.

We were at a recreational Cable/Wakeboard park that had one of the lakes designated as the floating obstacle course and roped off beach area. Loving the water and splashing in it my son did what comes naturally to him. He ingested enough water to contract the parasite cryptosporiduim.

A week or so after we noticed he wasn't himself, no other signs were there. He was extra cranky and irritable. Last week he had diarrhea for 7 days in a row so we ended up doing a stool sample and we found out about the parasite.

Apparently there are a lot of outbreaks across the country this year at an alarming rate.

It is derived from and spread by diarrhea and is not killed by chlorine therefor community pools and waterparks can carry it as well.

Please spread the word if you or someone you know has a child that shows symptoms after any pool, lake, or river outing do not hesitate to get them checked for a stool sample.

Thank god we found the issue and the meds to kill it. Today is day 2 of meds and he is already coming back to form.

Aw man. Glad it’s been sorted out. Best to the little man, the lovely missus, and to you.

That stuff, no joke.

Lisa got it from a water park at the Mall of America... bad times.

Glad your little one's okay, Tuna.

Tuna,

Sorry you had to deal with that.

FYI, the spore stage of that parasite is really resilient. We had a bunch of veterinary students come down with it and it was quite an ordeal. Make sure the environment (your house) is sanitized after this. I once recovered the spores from a surface after a month.
