Work in progress. SC can do food right. Fish caught, looks like maybe wings, pizza or whatever tonight.

Famous TR words: I thought I had more pictures.

So the wife and daughter were kind enough to abandon ship for a few days to allow the house to be taken over by Drake folk.

Sunday, we had two inches of rain. My roof sprung a leak. Everything blew out. Folks came anyway. It all worked out.

This guy showed up on Tuesday, late afternoon. Wednesday we hit the big river (since everything else was toast).

I hate the big river. I never catch anything. I kept that streak up. Fatman had no such hangups, however, and landed a nice brown.

Unfortunately, I have no hero pics because Fatman released it, only semi-intentionally, as I was scrambling over the boulders to get to him.

At the end of the day, FM decided it'd be a good idea to illustrate why he usually doesn't unstring until he gets back to the car. Fortunately didn't have to travel all the way down the long staircase to make his point.

We met up with Glista and Ginseng Sullivan for barbecue after.

Then this guy showed up.

Then the first wave of River Militia arrived.

Thursday morning, Fatman, CC and I went to a little trib which was high but fishable, while the River Militia went to the big river.

CC was first on the board.

Fatman wasn't far behind.

At (what turned out to be) the end of the day, CC and I were waiting for Fatman to make a rather treacherous crossing, when I heard a spash and a rather loud "Yip!" I looked over to see Fatman on his belly, doing his 'steelhead swimming up the rapids' impression.

We assembled at Chez Skully, met up with the River Militia crew and some local WNY boys, and whined, dined and told stories.

Friday the high was supposed to be 26 degrees F. I pulled my best Marlon Perkins (from Wild Kingdom) "I'll stay in the Jeep while Jim goes and wrestles the angry wildabeest." So those guys will tell that tale.

Another wave of River Militia folks arrived. It was a late night.

It warmed up significantly by midday, but the fish weren't playing particularly nice to those swinging flies. FM lost a dark male, and CC (who was on the river before sunup and probably still hasn't gotten his core temp up) saved the day by going 2 for 3 as dusk was falling.

Locals and visitors gathered again, there were pizza and wings, and more hijinks.

Sunday morning, I kicked everyone out, dropped FM at the airport, and frantically cleaned up before the wife got home so she'll let us do it again next year.

Good times were had, although we didn't get to really hit the big kitty. The Grimalkin can be a finicky beast.

Thanks to all who were able to make it, in spite of the conditions -- especially militia boys G & J, who drove 15 hours round trip for a single day of fishing. The cleaning was evidently successful, 'cause the wife says we can do it again next year. Hope to see you all then.

So in summary: no banjo, no tuba, no pig noises, no safety patrol, no broken foldy-chairs, no wrestling, no frog legs, no femur necklaces, no buried pickups, no burning furniture, and no river sluts.

And fish were caught.

It's interesting how civilized a bake can be when certain elements (aka pxatim) are absent.

Sorry I wasn't able to join you. I will definitely try and make it next year.
