OK, here goes:
So my wife......nevermind, that'll take too long, let's just say "postponed the trip".
We finally sold the river house and she wanted to take a family vacation. She did a butt-ton of legwork to get this as cheap as possible (for a family of six), every place we stayed had a palm frond thatched roof (and some leaked). I'll give the low down here and photo bomb tomorrow.
We flew into Cancun on Wednesday, spent two hours at the rent a car joint (that we pre booked), drove 2 1/2 hours to Holbox Island, stayed there for two nights...really cool place, for a while. Drove back to Cancun to pick up Madison, who had finals and couldn't fly w/ us. Then spent a night in Playa Del Carmen (it rained like shit and blew 20-30), then treked down to Punta Allen on a muddy ass pothole filled dirt road for four hours, hung there for three days, then came back north to Tulum, from there we hit up Coba and back to Playa Del Carmen, hung there for another day then back to Cuncun, then home.
I haven't been to Mexico since high school, so given a heads up by Befuddled...the cops are super crooked, you will get pulled over in Cancun, and we did, all the cash we had left at the time we gave the cop...like 52 bucks, pesos and american...yeah what a blast. The car rental companies have AWESOME online deals, then you get there and they will charge your card $800 US for a deposit if you don't buy their collision insurance. And what I learned first person: if the menu doesn't have prices, don't eat there. The prices will be equal to or higher than US and the food will prb suck. Esp roadside joints. Again, this was a family trip so very little fishing involved.
I'll put a few pics up tonight, but I'm beat and still learning Wolly's software. Oh yeah, keep the bottom half of the "visa" you fill out on the plane, you need it to get OUT of the country ( my wife threw two away because they got wet, cost us 60 bucks)
