Appalachian Brookies- TR
He's in a spot where native brookies can be found. I'm not one of those guys running down all the native strains of trout but do find something unique and intriguing about catching a fish whose ancestry goes back to the waters they still reside. Been in the area before but never targeted the southern strain natives so wanted to make it a point to do so and see if I could bring one to hand.
I don't do much trout fishing. Regrettable, as its always a good time. That being said, when I do, I greatly enjoy the tiny creeks and streams over larger rivers. Something about trying to figure out how to drop a fly in tight quarters for wee fish brings me joy. Usually done with dries.
Hooked up with Tx and Socks. Both were gracious hosts and allowed this "flatlander" and opportunity to hit some creeks for some natives. They quickly realized that my "A" game was more like a "R" game. They'd work over the hula hoop sized water and leave the holes where the clouds parted, rainbows ended, and angels were singing. And of course room for a back cast. Hell at times even room for a roll cast was appreciated.
Great to catch up with an old friend and spend some time with a new one. Meeting some natives was a good time as well. Cool looking fish.
Thanks guys! Good times.
