A good buddy and myself are thinking seriously about foregoing a couple of our usual White River streamer trips this Winter and making the trek South to hunt musky. I know the internet answers all questions but I've got a couple of basic ones that I'd love to hear the answers from someone firsthand.
So my first question is about timing...we're thinking February , maybe 2nd or 3rd week. Obviously we're not actually expecting to catch any fish, but is this time frame an acceptable one for the rivers around the McMinville area or would we be totally pissing in the wind? This musky shit is new to both of us and I'm just starting to wrap my head around the goings on of our local fish let alone fish 10 hours away on a moving body of water.
Question two is about flows. We know how important flows are to the fishing wherever you are or whatever you might be fishing for. Our main worry is that we drive 10 hours to find out things aren't even fishable in any of the rivers nearby due to water conditions... while we both like to drink , that's a hell of a drive to sit around camp all day. So I guess what I'm looking for is water levels that would make you stay home.
I'm open to any information you've got for me , from fishing advice to where to score the best burgers and beer in the area. There's always a learning curve when fishing an area you've never been to before and for us that's just part of the adventure...a little local knowledge beforehand can sure help to make the adventure a little more memorable though.
Feel free to PM me if you've got some good shit you don't want the whole world to know , or just post where to get the best burger.
Thanks in advance !!
