I woke up the next morning just in time for a Safety meeting.

Or as Hagen likes to pronounce it, “Saf-tee.”

Something about a couple hundred tee-shirts that were misprinted.

Hagen tells the story much better than I ever could.

Anyway.

Saf-tee.

At this point I honestly don’t recall if we had breakfast or not. If we did I’ve no photos of the event.

In any event, at some point we drove to the launch, put the boats in, and waited for heero.

Once again, heero didn’t show.

I handed out saf-tee whistles to those who wanted one and then jumped into Lando’s boat with Timber, while FSB took Hagen and Sheldon The Destroyer.

Once again, the fishing was stupid good.

A few miles down river we pulled over for an impromptu saf-tee meeting...

… and FSB decided to do some swinging with his spey rod.

He must not have paid attention during the meeting, because the spey casting caused some minor injuries which Lando documented for liability purposes.

While FSB swung the spey pole, Hagen showed off his new gloves.

He mentioned something about how he always wanted to be a hand model.

I thought about giving him my honest opinion, but instead responded with, “Follow your dream Hagen. Follow your dream.”

After the float Hagen was hungry.

And thirsty.

So we went to town and had some burgers.

And some beer.

Afterwards Lando and I went shopping for groceries.

As we were unloading the groceries from the cart, the woman behind the cash register asked, “So are you from around here?”

I pointed to Lando and replied, “He is, but I’m not.”

“I see. Is he your son?”

I hesitated for a moment and then replied, “Why yes he is, and I’m very proud of him.”

I expected her to follow that with, “I can see where he gets his good looks,” but instead she just scanned the rest of the groceries, took my money, and then said, "Have a nice day."

Now that I think about it, this may have happened on one of our previous trips to the grocery store, but since I’m too lazy to go back and edit what I’ve already posted, I’m injecting it here.

Anyway.

Hagen bought more beer and a bunch of ice.

Timber did the same.

Unfortunately we had no place to put all of that beer and ice, so a lot of it sat on the picnic tables at camp and melted away during the night.

When we got back to camp, Lando walked down to the river and put on a spey demo.

It was impressive.

After the spey/fish-catching demo, Hagen said to me, “I’ll give you a hundred bucks to throw away whatever it is you plan on cooking tonight, and then I'll treat everyone to pizza.”

“Sorry Hagen. I can’t do that.”

“Fuck.”

I made pad thai.

Hagen wouldn’t eat it, and Timber said it gave him gas.

I count that as a win.

More to come.

I've a way with women.

It's just not a good way.

Apologies for dragging this out. Every time I make a couple of posts with photos in the same thread, the Drake Board software views me as a threat. This would go much quicker if I was trying to sell you fake passports.

Anyway.

On Saturday (I think it was Saturday), we took a lovely drive through some beautiful country, and ended up here.

I floated with Lando and Hagen, and Timber floated with FSB and Sheldon.

There were plenty of willing whitefish in the river, and Hagen and Timber hammered them.

I fished much harder than I usually do with minimal success, while Hagen hooked up every time he felt like putting down his beer and dropping a fly in the water.

That's one of the things I love about this pastime.

It was a glorious day.

Hagen went for the leftover fried chicken…

… and then we continued down to the takeout.

Sheldon and I stayed behind to watch the boats while everyone else drove back to the launch in order to retrieve the trucks and trailers.

Sheldon was not pleased.

While we were sitting there, a small group of people wandered/staggered down to the launch. Most of them looked like they’d just come from Walmart, but one was not like the others: a slender and very attractive young gal sporting no tattoos and garnishing three very expensive cameras around her neck. I chatted with her a bit and discovered that she was a reporter for the local rag. She asked if I’d be OK with her publishing my photo in the next edition, and I replied, “If you’re that desperate for content, be my guest.”

When the crew returned with the trucks and trailers, we had great difficulty getting Lando’s boat out of the water.

Turns out something was missing.

We popped into the local bar, had a beer, and listened to some painfully bad local music.

Afterwards Hagen got his wish and we went out for pizza.

The restaurant proved to be overrun with patrons.

Usually a good sign.

Unfortunately it was also understaffed with under-trained employees.

At least Hagen got his pizza.

Once the meal ended we returned to camp, and later that evening I had the great pleasure of meeting sarmulminnow and his beautiful yellow lab.

He is an absolutely delightful gentleman, and we enjoyed a fine conversation around the fire after everyone else turned in.

More to come.

My niece is getting married this weekend, and I've volunteered to take my father up to his place in Mendocino so that my mother can attend the wedding.

Cornholio is going to join me, so...

...egg rolls.

The real deal.

And perhaps some bluegill fishing.

And maybe some rodent killing.

And possibly some drinking.

Anyway.

There's no intertubes in Horse Lady Land, so my next installment won't come until sometime next week.

Hopefully I'll still remember the rest of what happened.

If not I'll just make some stuff up.

Nobody reads this shit anyway.

We waited for heero, but he never showed.
This seems to be a recurring theme.

Fine job gents.
