You probably need to lead them a little more to not spook them with the plop. Only advice I can think of.

I recommend a rod too. Just using a spinning reel will cut down on the distance you can throw the shrimp.

I would use regular shrimp. the gulp shrimp don't work as good.

Saw locals do it in Hawaii with handlines. No wonder the population is thinned out. Oio=Polynesian munch.

I don’t see why there would be a problem fishing any fish with conventional gear.

This only applies to fly fishing with the caveat it always applies when donning a flatbrimmed ball cap regardless of method.
