Really good. Are watermasters really that junky or was yours special?
I have at least 8 years of 6 to 8 weeks a year on both of mine. I chose to upgrade to Caviness oars right from the gitgo but have not had issue one with either boat inspite of their being ridden hard, at times by, ahem, less than proficient operators, and put away wet.

Man, that water looks GOOOOOOOD!

I've always thought you would enjoy steelhead fishing, mostly because you aren't supposed to catch anything. I've spent way more time this year standing next to the river BSing with a beer in hand than actually fishing.

Caught a salmon? Is that what the cool kids say now when they pick up a STD?

damn, that's some tasty water.

FWIW, I don't know that I've ever seen Joe drink anything other than American lager. From a can.

When I say "anything other", I'm referring to beer. I've seen him consume a litany of other fluids.

So I heard back from a fellow named Rich at Big Sky Inflatables, the makers of Water Master rafts. On their website Rich Stuber is listed as a co-founder of the company, so it’s possible he’s the one I’ve been communicating with.

He asked for photos of the damage.

I sent them.

He said the raft was manufactured in 2008, which makes it 11 years old.

I bought it used in 2010.

I went back through my journals and can honestly say it’s never touched the water more than 45 times during the 9 years I’ve owned it.

I’ve cleaned it after every use, and wiped it down with 303 UV Protectant every year since I've owned it.

Here is what Rich had to say.

Regarding the odd-sized oars: “...We can get you an oar that matches one of those and you can use the third one as a spare....Another standard oar would be $30.00.”

I checked their website, and as it turns out, standard oars cost $30.00.

Regarding the factory sealed seam and factory installed D-ring patches: “The D-ring patches can easily be reattached using our glue...The seam is something we should probably fix though so I can do the repairs, including reattaching the D-rings, for free but would need you to pay shipping back and forth.”

I looked at shipping costs.

Easily $100.00. Probably more.

At this point I thought, “Fixing it can’t be that hard,” so I sent him another email and asked, “How much for just the glue?”

He replied, “It’s $7.95 for a 2 ounce bottle. You will need one for the D-ring patches. Again we can properly fix the seam if you send it in. If you try and repair it and it doesn’t work it may void warranty coverage for the repair. I can give you some tips but would love to take care of it if possible.“

At this point I thought, “Void the warranty coverage?”

Then I thought, “So you’ll fix the D-ring patches for free, but if I do it myself you’re going to charge me for the glue?”

Granted the raft is 11 years old, but it’s not like I plowed it into a piece of rebar and ripped a 6 inch gash into its belly. These are factory patches and factory welds that have failed. It was in pristine condition when I bought it, and I’ve always taken very good care of it.

If you go to the Big Sky Inflatables website and click on “Water Master Grizzly Raft,” under “Durability” you’ll find this.

- All Water Masters are built to last with the toughest materials
- Manufactured to the same specs as white water rafts
- Double-reinforced seams
- Built with high quality 30oz 1100 denier PVC with built-in UV protection
- Material is VERY abreasion and puncture resistant
- We do not use internal air bladders that can degrade and fail over time
- Very few individual pieces to damage or misplace
- Excellent customer service and support
- All packages assembled and tested in Stevensville, Montana USA
- LIFETIME WARRANTY on the raft

So has this thing really been "...built to last with the toughest materials?"

Have I just become too accustomed to free shipping (both ways) from outfits like Zappos and the like?

Is this what passes for "Excellent customer service and support" these days?

Asking for a friend.

It was a pleasure Joe.

I ended up fishing today until the rain blew me out. Just got home a few hours ago, I'll add some more when I get photos sorted.
