People who own fishing dogs are all blinded by love. There's no such thing as a good fishing dog. Most of these beasts are retrievers who think they can do to trout what they've been trained to do to ducks. It may sound cute, but its not. Stay away from people who take their dogs fishing.
That piece in fishing dogs etc is one of my favorite. I've fished with a whole lot of dogs and 2 were ok. I think that if you want to stand 50' from your buddy while you both cast dry flies with bamboo- it's really going to color your perspective on dogs. For my part- if they are a good boat dog and they know to dance with who brung them- they are fine fishing dogs because they are usually 75-300 yards away while we fish anyway.
No blind love here. I do not want to fish with this thing. At least not unless I hunt first. Then she will snooze and blow off the afternoon.
