This thread has really gotten away from me.
Shit's just busy these days. You know how it is.

Bear with me. This is going to take a while, for me and for you. I'll likely have to edit these posts multiple times over multiple days before it comes out right. In the meantime there will be music. Some of these photos have probably been posted, it's hard to keep track, but most have not.

Spring fishing came on hard. It was good right away.
The cool thing about springtime around here is that the fish could be under 10 feet of snow or sipping dry flies in 70 degrees. Just gotta read it and know where and when to go.

Image

My trusty tube saw a lot of river miles this year.

Image

I snagged a lot of fish in the butt, per usual.

Image

Not mine.

Image

Ours.

Image

Mine.

Gotta make time for the family.

We fish these ponds in the spring. Easy access and easy fish.

Dry fly season got better. I fished nothing but a #18 royal wulff for a couple weeks.
Some success.

Image

Slavetotheflyrod was there a lot. Remember him?

When I was Gregory's age, I learned to use a butterfly net to catch minnows.
I bought a butterfly net.

Image

Tied some streamies.

Image

Fished some new stuff.

Image

This is my friend Adam. He and I have been fishing together a lot this year.
He can fish and row. He's fucking hilarious and grows some dank ass weed.

Image

Image

Image

Lando called about a thing.
Two days after my second child was born, it just so happened that we could meet up with Willi and Ramcatt for one of the silliest days of fishing I've ever had. It was nuts.
I needed a good dose of capr.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Lando gave me an opportunity to pole a boat for my second time ever.
It only went slightly better than the first time, despite there being zero W.
Somehow Lando managed to catch one while I was holding the push pole in my hands.

We need to get Lando back to the saltwater.

Image

Image

Image

Runoff came and went uneventfully. We fished right through it.

Image

Dries, even.

Image

We continued our intense regimen of training/brainwashing.

Image

I like to fish hoppers all season long, which is something I think most people don't do.
Here is a June hopper fish.

Image

I FINALLY floated my local. This is a small river with a limited floating season, and no real established put in or take out.
Inside knowledge and a flexible schedule are required, in addition to the right boat which I don't have.
The coolest part is I can almost throw a rock (or trout) to the put in from my house.
We splashed the boat then parked in my driveway.

There are rapids.

Image

And unethical anglers.

Image

And fences.

Image

Meanwhile, back at that one place, I had been experiencing some of the best big fish dry fly fishing I've ever had.
I convinced Willi to make the long trek over. I knew he would do well, and he did.

Image

Image

My father in law caught a tiny trout and we were all stoked about it.

Image

Goat roper stoneflies were tied. Purple was a new variation.

Image

They worked. Really well.

Image

Boat ramp double.

Image

Scouting new stuff.

Image

Image

Image

That brings us to the end of June, which was one of the best months of my life.
But the beginning of July brought major milestone.

By now you've seen lots of photos of Gregory holding fish. He's 3. He didn't catch any of those. I did.
One day, that all changed.

We found the right place on the right day and everything lined up. He did it all himself. Sure, I coached and netted the fish, but I didn't touch the rod. He caught three brook trout in about 30 minutes.

I've tried to explain to many people how important this was for me and most of them don't get it. I think you guys get it without me having to spell it out for you.

Hopefully he will remember this day as fondly as I do, and then realize it was extra cool because the fish were caught on grasshoppers.

That's it for tonight.
Tomorrow is November 26 and it's supposed to be over 60 degrees. I've got the boat loaded for a family float and everyone is asleep.
It will be Lee's first time on the water.

Did the Luau again. My 3rd time.
Made some upgrades to the boat and brought it with.
Tons of pics in the Luau thread, but here are a couple of my favorite.

Image

Image

Slave and I had a really good session one evening and I posted pics in the 420 thread which seem to have gone awol.
You can read the play by play over there.
Here are a few photos from that evening.
Yes, the fish were caught on dries. We're not peasants.

Image

Image

Image

Image

We went back at another time and got our asses handed to us.

Image

Image

Did a thing with skifishbum and his dad, ginny sully and crew, and my mom and our friend.
There's a whole thread about it. Nick might even finish posting all the photos one day.
Apparently I never posted mine at all. Here they are.

The drive back from the Luau killed my old Subaru, in which many of you had the misfortune of riding.
I bought a 4 Runner. This is the only sticker that will ever stick on it.
Which pro staff? All of them.

Image

Found a new brook trout spot.

Image

The Drakerer known as Tidewater came into town.
He requested cutthroats. I like to think I delivered.

Image

Image

Image

Did some hiking with the family.
Tried to kill trout with rocks.

Image

Some things fell into place and I was able to spend a weekend with a group of fisherpeople.
There were six of us, and the way that we were all connected was incredibly convoluted.
Long story short, among the group were Fatman, Lando's girlfriend, and Volfish's friend from Florida.

Image

We blew up Lake Powell.

Image

And of course...

Image

Slave and I got involved with Project Healing Waters last year. We did it again this year.
I'll spare you the humble bragging, but I will say that it is fucking awesome and I love doing these trips.
If it is within your capacity please volunteer your time.

Image

Fished the home valley some more.

Image

Image

Did the traditional fall float.

Image

Product whooooooored.

Image

Found out that Grapplers fucking suck.
Found out later they suck even harder in snow. Worst tires ever.
Currently rocking studded snows and not regretting it.

Image

Did some more of that traditional fall float.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Did that multi-day thing with fishskibum AGAIN! This time with Jerms and Bill Nye the Science Pots Guy (Bruiser).
Here's the deal. Many weeks before this trip my wife said, "Hey, my mom is coming to visit for a week and you should take a trip somewhere." In a rare moment of me not being an idiot, I quickly got some guys to commit to a venture. A few days before our departure MIL cancelled. There was no discussion with my wife about me bailing on my trip. I love her.

Digital weed. Science weed.

Image

Not done yet. We're only through mid-October.
Bring on redd raping season!
