What is a mixed wing exactly...is the simplified answer a right and left married wing that has then been mixed with like a toothbrush and shit or is the answer beyond me. I'll accept either. :needs_pics

Well, at least that fly costs less than a day fishing that river (the Helmsdale). No self respecting person should be caught using a salmon fly more expensive than a days salmon angling -- a line in the sand need be drawn somewhere in regards to this expensive sport.

The key to face rubbing is to pay that much for somewhere that your chances or river conditions arent all that great in lieu of doing so for somewhere the fishing is off-the-charts good.

For instance, the Helmsdale in July or August (or any of those north Highland Rivers, really). Why spend all that money on a trip fishing low water for grilse in north Scotland when you couldve instead spent it on a trip to the pristine waters of the Kola Peninsula? Because you can, thats why.
