Smalljaw Foam Diver SBS

kind of self-explanatory, right? We seem to have some impressive thread-wrappers that lurk around this board. let's try to keep your "first booger" posts at a minimum.

This fly has been killer. Did you tie it sans vice?
frustrated. After a few "what the fucks?" "i suck"s and a break on shore I convinced her to get back to casting. I clearly remember this question/statement "so you actually think this is fun. These fish are fucked"

I liked this fly before. I like it even more now that I see how you tied it.

This fly is bomb-proof and has been steller in my AO. I struggled getting that head right and this is helpful.... a 1 3/8" equilateral triangle huh? I was waayyy over-complicating things. Thanks F-C, you da man!

That looks somewhat easier to tie than a Dahlberg.

I haven't thrown this fly yet. I will this weekend though.

Smallies crushed it last week. Browns crushed its few nights back. Fly got roughed up and is still holding strong. Thanks for the play-by-play!

This fly boated, the biggest small jaw bass of the year, yesterday afternoon. The yellow one.

This SBS got whacked when my account got burned. A few people have asked about it so here we go again.
Image

hook: 8089 #2
tail: flashabou, craft fur
body: marabou
head: 1/8" evazote foam
weight .030 lead

tie in a craft fur tail
Image

top it with flashabou
Image

palmer some marabou for a body
Image

throw on 6-7 wraps of .030 lead

now the tricky part

cut two pieces of 1/8" evazote foam; one rectangle 1/2"x1-1/4", and one equilateral triangle 1-3/8 tall.
Image

round off the top of the triangle
Image

Tie in the rectangle 1/2" back from the hook eye
Image

fold it over and tie off in the same location
Image

tie the triangle in at the hook eye and wrap thread back to previous tie in point
Image

like so
Image

Fold the triangle piece back and tie off on top of folded rectangle to form the head and diving collar
