Collyer's Ace of Spades

Some discussion on it's origin, but most attribute this neat matuka to David Collyer. Getting some more mileage out of the craft store bronze mallard sub. Can't do better than Mr. McPhail for instruction

thread - Danville 6/0 black
rib - small wire silver (didn't have the right sized tinsel, which looks so cool)

measure (tips past tail) another clump of calftail; tie in/trim

Tommy's Favorite (variation)

A vintage grayling pattern. Since I'd like to use it as a dry, I replaced the red wool tail with something that might actually help it float.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #16
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - hackle red
body - macaw tail fibers
hackle - dun

this one with the other side of the macaw facing out

Ermine Moth

Image

A vintage pattern attributed to the Rev. Edward Powell. Instructions also call for it be tied with opposing partridge hackles; I prefer this Jingler variation. With a few mods, this would make a decent Spruce Moth.

thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - yarn yellowish orange
rib - Uni-Stretch black
body - dubbing white (original calls for wool; rabbit used here)
hackle - barred cream (white called for but unavailable)

Munn's Hector (variation)
