First try at tying the bronze mallard fibers in first/facing forward then folding back (got that idea from Davie McPhail here). Cloak may be a bit sparse but I was happy with the distribution.

thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - hackle fibers yellow
rib - small wire silver
body - tinsel silver
body hackle - hen dyed ginger (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/2 Tsp Rit Camel/4 cups water)

cloak - bronze mallard
I'd be ready when my feet touch ground
Wherever I come down

Denson's Redneck Dabbler

Image

hook - Dai Riki 075 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 wine
tail - hackle red
rib - small wire gold
body - mylar tinsel opal
body hackle - hen grizzly dyed golden brown (1Tbs Rit Golden Yellow, 1 Tsp Rit Tan/1 cup water)
collar hackle - hen grizzly dyed red
cloak - bronze mallard

mash barb/start thread 1 eye width back from eye

Image

strip off some bronze mallard fibers; roll

Image

Image

measure (hook length+); tie in with fibers facing forward, rolling fibers around the shank, trim butts

Image

Image

Image

wrap to bend; strip some hackle fibers, measure (shank length); tie in/tie in rib

Image

Image

tie in tinsel, wrap forward, tie off/trim

Image

Image

tie in (folded) hackle by tip; wrap to bend

Image

Image

wrap wire thru hackle, helicopter end/cover with thread; trim hackle tip

Image

tie in (folded) shoulder hackle; take a couple wraps, tie off/trim

Image

Image

stroke mallard fibers back; tie down (probably should have tied in the body hackle back a couple turns farther to keep the head from getting crowded like this)

Image

Image

even tips on another strip of bronze mallard, strip off, fold

Image

Image

measure (halfway back to tip of tail); tie in/trim

Image

Image

wax the crap out of your thread, build up the head, whip finish, SHHAN

Conba's Claret Bumbler (variant)

Swapped out the yellow shoulder hackle she used for golden pheasant; the longer fibers necessitated the use of guinea up front instead of dyed Mearns quail (preferred) but in this case the guinea behaved.

hook - Dai Riki 075 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - golden pheasant tippet
rib - tinsel pearl
body - dubbing claret
body hackle - dyed claret (1 Tbs Rit Wine/1 cup water)
1st shoulder hackle - golden pheasant yellow rump
2nd shoulder hackle - guinea dyed blue (Regatta - 3/4 Tsp Rit Aquamarine, 1/4 Tsp Rit Royal Blue/4 cups water)
I'd be ready when my feet touch ground
