kind of self-explanatory, right? We seem to have some impressive thread-wrappers that lurk around this board. let's try to keep your "first booger" posts at a minimum.

Olsson’s Ekorrflugan

Image

Found this on the Bakslengen blog. With a squirrel wing and body, save your good hackle for something that’ll float for more than one cast; should work as a drowned bug though.

hackle - grizzly
wing/head- squirrel tail

Mash barb, start thread at eye

Image

Clean, stack, measure (hook length plus gap) a sparse clump of squirrel tail; trim butts/tie in with tips pointing over eye

Image

Image

Tie in rib, wrap to bend

Image

Dub thread/dub body up to wing butts (about 2 eye widths back from eye)

Image

Image

Tie in hackle; palmer rearward to bend

Found an un-attributed/unnamed pic on the interweb that was tied with a pheasant tail body and a bit sparser in the wing and hackle; fattened it up a little for rougher water.

PT’s Pink Opal Clacka Caddis

Image

Image

Image

Image

Found this variation of the Iris Caddis on Planettrout’s site; combines the goodness of Mathews, Weise and Potter in one tasty morsel. Never thought of using pink for the hydropsyche hatch (I’ll have to downsize to a #16) but pink flies have produced well on Montana streams, so I’ll give them a shot. My barred ginger cape is very weak - short quills, sparse barbs, but the color is good so I used it here (next time I’ll wrap a ginger and grizzly)

Another one from the Planettrout site. John Rose’s original is pretty much a Hairwing Dun with a shuck; added the flash rib from Dennis Potter patterns to get the fish’s attention.

PT’s Slope Caddis

Image

Image

Image

Another interesting pattern from Planettrout; this one incorporates a half bullethead and snowshoe outriggers with the backend from John Barr’s Graphic caddis. Here’s his fine SBS if you’re interested; only change I made in the sequence was to tie in the deer hair (forward facing) after the abdomen but prior to the outriggers (makes it easier to establish proportions for the head/thorax; less chance of cramming the eye).
