body - squirrel, hare's ear, fluff from base of pheasant rump feather (pretty much any gamebird feather would work)

dub thread, dub body






counterwrap rib; tie off/trim




prep aftershaft feather




unwind thread to remove any twist, split with bodkin




insert aftershaft, spin bobbin, moisten/stroke back and wrap












stroke down/back, take a few wraps back

McGee's Ascension Flymph



Changed out the hackle - original called for duck shoulder, but I couldn't get it to work, so I used an aftershaft feather in a split loop (pheasant here; partridge, quail, grouse, etc have them, too). Nice thing about this stuff is you can adjust the length to get neat looking hackle on really small flies (and it's a lot cheaper than a hen cape); color is somewhat limited. Tied here as a PMD, change colors to suit your needs

hackle - aftershaft
overwing - midge Krystal Flash pearl

dub thread, dub abdomen up to 2/3 mark






unwind thread to remove any twist, split with bodkin




prep aftershaft, grab with clip






insert in split thread, slide off clip, release, trim away from stem








spin, moisten, wrap








tie in KF




dub head






tie off, trim KF, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trim bottom, stroke wing up/back, take a few wraps






trim out tip of partridge feather, lay along underside of fly, tie in, slowly pull forward to adjust length (tips to/a bit past point)

Thanks. The biots create a hotspot, I believe. I was going to make one in pink, too, but the biots I have in that color are crap; used cerise Uni-stretch instead and it turned out okay.

tie in CH; weave, tie off, trim






round one end of strip (gap width) of landscape fabric; measure for length (tip to tail), add a drop of Super Glue at head and tie in
