Could not have guessed this is the route this would take.
Red: I totally respect and get where you are coming form. The silence is part of your solitude on the water and I get that. I as well enjoy a nice quite day on the water. Out here there is no way to determine what fish is eating or what sounds equals fish in any way beyond maybe some boils of Stripers but that is seen before heard for us. So for you there is advantage to being able to hear and decipher what you are hearing. Things you hear can increase catch rates so it makes sense to use your hearing.
However, when it comes to bass boats and an Eastern portion of the Delta with Stockton as the heart of it. Sound is where its at. Some of my most memorable fishing days can be associated with music. Especially the fact that Holio can confirm, Delta fish love Tom Petty Pandora. When I am running from spot to spot I want to have the loudest bumpiest tunes on the water. Then when I am fishing I turn the bass down and I still listen to music.
This reminds me of one day I had last year in my new skiff. I went out on a whim and no lie had 45 TW eats on one wall in under and hour. I could not manage the troll motor and my casting fast enough to keep up with how often I got bit. The whole time I was rocking out and dancing to Biggie Smalls and it was of the most fun nights I have had out there. Now when I hear Biggie a little part of me is able to go back to that evening.
Sometimes the music adds to the day for me. Or when you get a song you love and haven't heard in a while it can turn a shitty skunking day into a decent one.
I guess its just personal preference. Even when I do river floats I have a waterproof speaker to have tunes down the river. When I started fishing there was none of that and we only had a raft and a drift boat. There was no option for music at those times. Maybe its a generational thing, location thing (I'm sure Stockton boats have more beats than LA boats overall), or a personal preference thing.
I kinda like where this has turned and hearing different opinions.
I almost feel like an asshole if I say I would rather have some Trick Daddy playing with Dizzy Dean sometimes rather than silence.
