Oh, I think I am getting a 12'8" 6 wt. and leaning towards the traditional Rio mid-spey.
If my tombstone reads, "He never ate sushi." it won't be a lie, and I'll be OK with that.

My guess is that you're going to need one. Probably a reel as well.

you'd never catch me latching on to something new and asking a fuck ton of questions...

but I can't refuse a good spey convo as it makes normal fly fishermen feel inadequate, so let's go...

what's your target fish?

(I have all the answers providing someone like slss already told us.)
mate, it's ryan says... and ryan didn't say.

Good thinking.

Yes.

I wasn't really trying to catch fish. The old boss talked me into getting one because he and the other kids got one. They purchased switch rods with the Skagit chucking thing to toss streamers in water they can't reach. Me.......I have a boat, so I just want to cast.

Far.

And really pretty.

Back to lines.

Some will tell you to get a Skagit.

Heero will then threaten to never speak to you again unless you get a Scandi.

Skagit vs Scandi will provide enough fodder for several pages of heated debate, after which you'll know about as much as you know now about which line you should purchase.

Fixt.

You can throw anything from a 6" leech to a #18 soft hackle on that rig if you want.

If you want to chuck meat and tips get a skagit

If you want to be a gentleman get a compact Scandinavian.

You should probably get a RIO mid-spey then.
Rio recommends it for 13-14' rods, so you might want to rethink that if you follow that logic.
If you want something interchangable, perhaps get a running line/head set-up. That way you can try Skagit/scandi systems, and also get ahold of some pretty fine mid/long heads from NextCast. They have some decent "line selection" info:

FallFavorite55 might be a nice starter option for your mid-belly love affair.

Fuck what Mitch says. He can cast, but he knows shit about lines.

Maybeso.

I was thinking of getting a spare spool on this new reel, so a traditional mid and a beautiful blonde?

Like I said, I really don't want to catch fish. It is something to do in the winter, and I really don't want to have to strip in line to cast.

I sold mine and started going south more. Hogleg has it, don't think he's ever used it. Sure he'd let you borrow it.
