I never really understood this canard - legislative language is written by lawyers for lawyers so that there can be only one possible interpretation of any given section of the bill. It's written to be absolutely inronclad and unambiguous, cause there are too many people out there who's job it is to find & exploit even the smallest of loopholes.

There are a lot of very legit gripes with this, or any piece of legislation, but bitching and moaning about the length of it makes it seem like there's nothing of substance to complain about.

For instance - how about the $100 million medicaid payoff to Landrieu? The bullshit backdoor deal with big Pharma? There's plenty wrong with the health care reform bills out there, why bitch about something as completely pointless as the length of the bill?

FWIW, I think if anything passes, it'll be a good thing, but it's not nearly as good as it could've been if the democrats had some balls.

Well, with as far along as things were, I assumed it went without saying that I meant some combination of the house & senate bills that are currently under consideration, but if that was unclear, then there it is.

I don't have kids, but if I did, that'd be another reason for me to support this. The country's health insurance system is very, very broken, and it will bankrupt the nation if not addressed ASAP. The senate bill will reduce the national debt over the long run, so it's actually cheaper than doing nothing.

Again, there are a lot of legitimate gripes about the bills under consideration, but claiming that the costs for this will be passed on to our kids and grandkids requires that you completely ignore all of the facts at hand and just start making stuff up. If you want to go that route, I suppose that's your perogative, but it makes it awful hard to have a discussion.

If you're truly worried about the debt being passed on to the next generation, you ought to be all for this bill, since it's projected reduce the defecit by hundreds of millions of dollars.

I'm not really sure how that's at all relevant. Apples & softballs.
