Around here the families with a bunch of kids they cannot afford are all republicans and count on food stamps and medicaid for their families and the rest of us for their schools and roads. one third of all births in this baby factory of a state are paid for by Medicaid, and they vote a straight party line, Romney on down.

Nothing compared to the sacrifices that many of our veterans endured. what is your point? you want me to say thank you? Thank you. Again. You want me to buy you a beer? I'd be glad to.

You want blind support to neocon agression? No can do.

I have been sending what I can (decks, bearings, trucks, pads, wheels, etc) to these folks for a while, if anybody feels like doing something besides bitching about stuff do me a favor and make a small donation. Sorry not trying to hijack, or push any sort of agenda. Just trying to help some good people make a difference and get the word out...carry on....

Stop being a bully for fucksake. Cary is right, thank you for your service. Beyond that, you are no more special than the rest of us. Service was your choice. A choice the rest of us truly respect but does not give you some high moral pulpit to judge others who chose not to follow your path....which judging by your bitching about life, Barry, and being "stuck" in shithole Cali...you're not exactly leading by example.

Wasn't modesty and humility a trait they instilled in the military? Most of the guys I've met who serve(d) are a hell of a lot more tactful than that when speaking to us "citizenry".

Perhaps it wouldn't be so forgotten if your party mentioned it once at their convention....so then the media may take it up again too and it wouldn't be put on the back burner or page 14 or whatever. Just a thought, there's a mirror right over there... :coffee

Certainly not on the minds of the Republican candidates. Not mentioned ONCE by either Ryan or Romney in their speeches.

Sad...
Get fucked Canook, the Presidents 10,000 press agents i.e. The Mainstream Media,
have done everything possible to hide this war as much as possible from the public during
O's time in office. So that O can have some breathing room.

If an American service member was killed in the last 3 years they were labeled "Nato Led Forces"
as long as possible.

Obama is just as much a sad fucking joke of a Commander in Chief as the President I served under.
Here he is speaking about Afghanistan, from Afghanistan.

In this clip, the President is attending the arrival of soldiers killed in action.

Here is an address devoted entirely to the subject of the war in Afghanistan. He doesn't call it Operation Enduring Freedom, either. He calls it the war in Afghanistan, and lays out the entire picture, including US casualties and our nation's responsibilities to returning forces.

When the President spoke to us in Fort Collins last month, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were discussed at length, and he has repeated this elsewhere. If anyone has forgotten the war in Afghanistan, it is your neighbors, not the President. It is nothing new either. Ask any Vietnam vet what their return was like. Protesters spitting on them at the airport is the stuff of right-wing fairy tales. The most common story is how they returned and discovered that it was hard to tell there was a war going on, except for reports on the evening news. I'm not saying that is okay, because it is not. I'm just saying that people try to block out anything unpleasant if they can, in order to stay sane. It doesn't mean they don't care, it just means they are trying to get past it the only way they know how.

I don't know what the solution is, other than ending the damn war, but even that is only a temporary solution. In a generation or so, the saber rattling will resume, people who object will be called cowards, and we will be sending a new crop of kids on what they think will be a glorious adventure. That is the worst kind of forgetfulness.
