Part of the problem with Libya is that Obama got all caught up in the media hyped middle east Twitter revolution bullshit and made stupid public comments about Momar's legitimacy to lead and that Momar had to step down. In doing so Obama painted himself into a corner. I thought Harvard lawyer types would be smarter than to make statements like he made unless he was 150% sure that the rebels could knock that crazy fucker out on their own. Now the rebels are getting their asses kicked and we are not only getting involved we are now threatening air strikes. This should really turn up the heat on the entire middle east shit show and if you ask me Obama is largely to blame for his comments at the beginning of the uprising.

Believe it or not, the United States is not at the center of the universe and the world does not stand at attention waiting for us to tell them what to do. If that was the case, there would have been a revolt in Libya back in the 1980s when Reagan was denouncing Qaddafi on a regular basis, instigating air battles over the Gulf of Sidra, and bombing Libyan cities. Have you ever considered that successful uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia influenced the Libyans' decision a lot more than a quote from the head of state of a country on the other side of the Atlantic?

No What I am saying is that Obama painted HIMSELF into a corner and the rest of us with him. If Momar stays in power it makes Obama look like a moron. He should have stepped back from the media hype fest for a few days and analyzed the situation more carefully. I honestly do not think you even read my post Rusty.

Everyones got opinions, and thats truly a-ok; but your perspective is completely validating what I wrote about this: i.e. Lenny wants ACTION, and Plow and Co. want ACTION even though they forget R's would be doing and have done the exact same shit in the past. Meanwhile, you would prefer that he had sat back and kept his mouth shut for a few more days (symbolically known as playing golf)....
So, which one is it guys? Some of you once again want to have your cake and eat it too. Are we the worlds policeman or not? Or is it just political conveniance to use these excuses? This no -fly idea has not gone on for weeks...and coming from the PARTY THAT PASSED AN IMPORTANT BILL RENAMING FUCKING FRENCH FRIES "Freedom Fries"....you guys support FRANCE now?!?! And England, who traded the Libyan Pan Am Bomber for BP contracts in Libya?!?! And speaking of which, just switch Barry's name with W's on all those leadership listings some of you made. I mean, geez, the economy was going in the shitter and the R's were worrying about DOMA and keeping M.B. happy by making new laws, bloated gov't and adding on debt. Hilarious, really. Personally, let France and Co. deal with it...thats where Libyan oil goes to, not the U.S. (miniscule %'s made up for by Saudi)
After trainwreck of the last decade, being a "reactionary" president like shrub is not smart politics....and this is what allll this is about. :cool

Oh, and FWIW, going into Libya with ANY military presence WILL get us in a mess. The brits tried sneaking in some special ops guys and you know what? The REBELS some of you R's are so suddenly passionate about (where were you guys and W. on Sudan and genocide for most of a decade?), kidnapped those SAS guys. The reason? They (the rebels you guys are all about the love with suddenly) said they did NOT want foreign intereference, worrying it would get Mohmar really ramped up...which of course, now he is.
This ain't some piss ant country either. This would not be a Grenada, or a Panama....those military superpowers in the 80's that R's felt we needed to indeed be the worlds policemen. Libya has a military similar to Iraq's (pre-war) in size; more air force, and w/o years of sanctions, Libya would have no qualms going full stop on us if we got involved one tiny bit with our military....

VT, you misunderstood. I dont want ACTION, I just want the guy to appear as though he realizes or gives 2 shits about whats going on. He seems completely uninterested. The last thing I want is to get involved in Libya, but he needs to make his stance clear. So far, he hasnt made anything clear. One of our staunchest allies is suffering thru a massive natural disaster and where is he? Wheres the support? He's a total mystery.

Wheres the lazer-like focus on jobs creation? This shouldnt be a partisan issue. Where the fukk is the leader of the free world?

obama has no clue what to do. that's why he's giving SOTU speeches about women's shit, gay-equality shit, and going out to play golf while the world deals with a massive natural disaster, a nuclear disaster, and a mid-east country on the verge of collapse. not to mention the ginormo debt he's saddled us with and zero budget passed.

nevermind, you're right - that's outstanding leadership.
The Japanese have turned down our help, the rebels fighting against Quaddafi sent more insurgents to Iraq than any other country, most of the debt was there before he arrived, and congress passes budgets, not the President.

Oh hey, your favorite socialist got a promotion in his sales organization today.

Happy birthday grump.

I agree 100% in theory that none of this should be partisan; but the reality of the current toxic social environment of American politics and media means it will be. That aside, what you point out is exactly the problem: If you happen to want lazer focus on jobs, then where's the time to care about rebels in countries that genuinely don't like us, and "look" like your doing something that may very well be not in Americas best national interest? It almost as if we want our president to be playing with erector sets on his desk when there's an oil spill; want him to suit up and fly over to Gahdafi and tell him to "Simmah down!"; and while we're at it, lets literally make him also a nuclear physicst and have him blowing his icey cool demeanor onto reactor #4 to cool it off....
No one guy can be all things to all people, let alone to folks who aren't even living in the u.s. Not saying you ever called him a "leader"; but W. does not get leader points just because he started wars; one of which contrary to Plow's opinion of D's owning the "political lies market", was justified with false (read: lies) info on Iraq. Otherwise, the last guy who "acted" like a leader was Slick Willie. Reagan was just like W.; being operated by insiders; though Reagan being an actor, could actually read off the teleprompter....when he wasn't forgetting everything he was investigated for; or napping the last 4 yrs...

Who is this we that is threatening air strikes?
I have not seen the president say that .
Why then in a rant ABOUT the POTUS did you insert that remark?
My guess is agenda!
