this place could use some fucking talent as of late.
tying's a piece of piss, putting this together is ass pain.
here we go...
get some of these...

remember gudebrod thread?

start your thread just before where you'd like your head to end, wind back and be messy.
there'll be a cover up.

lay a thread base for your tag with flat wraps.

tie in some of this at the bottom.

lay a base of thread for the tip.

wind tip, 5 wraps.

wind back along the tag base catching the tinsel on the bottom using flat wraps.

get some of this, buttercup.

don the gloves and split the silk for the tag. hang the other half on the backboard to spoil photos.

tie in silk at bottom.

wind to tinsel and back, catch/tie off at bottom.

the good thing about these flies is you'll use feathers you normally wouldn't.
take the feathers from the top of the chook head as shown here...

fasten tail using 2 wraps, you'll catch the rest in a bit.

get some of this.

tie in at bottom for your rib.

wind thread up body catching everything, doesn't matter... you'll never see it again.

tie off and change thread to 3/0 white.

build up the body using side by each flat wraps. you may think it's a waste but you'll build this up going back and forth twice. don't take the thread to the tag more than once, try to build it tapered.

take the thread to the front stopping just short of where you'll like to finish the head.

get some black silk.

tie it on in the same manner you did the tag. burnish it, it's good for the soul.

don't worry about any imperfections, it's for the fishing.

wind rib, 7 wraps.

tie off silk and rib.

a good way to practice whip finishing is to change thread again.

cover up that white head now. if you miss a bit, don't sweat it... you'll be back.

this is a black hackle. in 2min you're going to hate it.

fold it in half, shiny side out.
here's a tip. put the shaft in some cheap ass hackle pliers. holding the pliers with the outside of your right hand on your lap, hold the feather tip with your left and stroke the barbs back and fold with your right fingers. simple.

tie the hackle in at the bottom with shiny barbs pointing rearward.

now wind it keeping all barbs facing rearward.

part the hackle with your bodkin evenly and pull the barbs down either side.

wind the thread back over the barbs on a rearward angle. \\\

with the remaining errant barbs, use tweezers to pull at the base of each individual barb... you don't want to break the rachis

finished throat.

wing materials... yellow, red and blue goose feather, peacock wing.

looking at the good side of a feather, the barbs on the left will build the near side (the side you can see) and the right the back. use 4 barbs of each feather, each side.

marry the wings. this is the easy bit believe it or not...

mount the wings. this may be the hard bit.
if you bollocks it, take your wings in tweezers and hold them in the steam above the tea kettle.
they'll pop straight back to their original shape.

place a drop of cement on the thread and wing waste, it'll be easier to cut.
go have a drink and/or smoke while it dries. you've earned it.

clip the wing waste on an angle and cover with thread.

select some small eyes from the uppermost part of your jc cape. unless you're really anal with your other flies, you'll never use these.

tie one each side.

the finished (reduced) canadian black dose- for the fishing
