The boat I built will apparently not sink if I hit an oyster bed at wide open throttle. I haven't tried it yet though. It only has one layer of 12oz glass.

I like how you laid the plane beside the plywood like it was used.

Unfortunately it was.. making the scarf joints with that small hand planer was probably the most time consuming and tedious part thus far.

next time mark the top and hit it with a belt sander.
if you can shave and not cut off your nose you can handle a belt sander.

Where did you get the plan?

I bought mine from cajune boats. I’m doing the freestone skiff. Keeping all the exact dimensions but doing varied colored cedar strip gunnels and seats instead of those plastic drift boat seats and plywood gunnels. Do you have pics of yours?

See but this all requires owning a belt sander. I am always accepting donations though. Maybe with the money saved I can fly you up here to etch a big trout on the side.

Also...mix in a wider container, if you use a coffee can it'll get too hot and set up on you. Or ignite.

Well some more things have been happening in the ole garage.

I knew this project would be a lot of epoxy and fiber glass.. but never knew it would be quite this much epoxy.

I've saved you all the boring steps of glassing and epoxying both sides several times. The bottom has three layers of glass on the bottom, one layer on top. The side panels have a layer on each side plus countless flow coats of epoxy.



Bear and steamin' came over and helped put all the panels together. It was like wrestling a grizzly getting them all situated but It was pretty crazy to see it actually take its official shape.







Steamin' christened it with it's very first PBR



I've been thinking a lot about what it's going to look like come spring time, and made an extremely technical blue print.





But until then, I've some fillet joints to do..

Damn do I ever want to take a pull of 10 year in this soon.. preferably under the cover of a greener than green canopy that overlies northern Michigan rivers come summer time.

things that are wrong:

1. I still haven't read any stories about you and your mates robbing the ira. these need accompanying each step. and don't just make something up... 'cause that's just the shit of horses.

2. that spirit level will be of more use to you out on the water. I'm assuming it's hollow plastic composite and you may be able to use it as a floatation device.

3. mesh pockets in fishing trousers.

Rod holders/ support for the side shelves


Dry box in the back and making the stencils for the side shelves


Flipped her over and gave her a good sand


So I could put the last coat on the bottom- graphite filled epoxy





Flipped her back over and glued together the official cedar strip side shelves. Fitting these perfectly to the side panels took forever.




I wont have the cooler in there as my rowers bench but when the wifes not around i throw it in there to pretend what'll happen come summer time.



Up next: putting the dry box cover/ flip up seat on. Rowers bench. Rope seat. Gunnels.
