more spring shit. amphibiax shit.
carnage on the wet roads. slick with amphibian guts. incredible the migrations that take place on wet warm nights in new england.
i collected nine species of amphibians. green frog, wood frog, peep frog, grey tree frog, american toad, unknown toad, yellow spotted salamander and red backed salamander in about an hour.
really cool being out on a rainy night listening to tunes, rolling slow down back roads near vernal pools. all of the animals were released in their general areas after showing my kids them in the morning. i had over thirty toads in a cooler, for effect. see? this is the shit right out there living in these woods? pretty fucking cool. what they didn't know was that the now retired cooler was for one night a furious orgy. none the wiser, until they are.....
i released the yellow spotted's in a remote location. these salamanders can grow to 12" in length and live to thirty years. they are burrowing mole salamanders, and i could not believe how fast they did just that and burrowed away.
i hit up a bass pond or two.
felt really good to do a little paddle.
got a lotta fish. nothin big, though. and they only wanted the little tiny fly.
couple nights later i got one on top. it was starting to get warm again, everythings getting green.
