We'd been saving all year to rent an island in Belize, but that can now wait.

My wife has a friend that has a place in Costa Rica and she said we could stay for free...Hell Yes! Change of plans!
Her place is in the rain forest and near an active volcano.

When sitting on the porch, I had flocks of parakeets flying over me, so many birds...and monkeys (not a parakeet).

We kept busy and tried to stay off the beaten path, we did hanging bridges and zip lines 300 feet over the forest bed.

We did a cocoa plantation tour, and a coffee plantation tour (pics on phone).
My wife brought our oldest down here last year for a graduation present, they went to the Caribbean side.
This year we went to the Pacific side.....

I hired a charter for a Friday,but there was a hard front coming in so we busted out early from the rain forest for a half day Thursday trip....
The sails had come in early this year but since we were trolling, we'd get what we got. I just wanted the kids to catch fish.

Ben started off w/ a good mahi

Then he piloted the boat the rest of the day.

Alex got 6 mahi..."Dad, is this really fishing?"

She landed the only sail!

Then they threw out the teasers for me...

I had 4 mahi hit the fly, had one hook up, lost it.

Landed a tuna....tuna suck, they go straight down caught them before, meh.

A restaurant on the beach cooked up our catch for us (pics on phone). It was delicious. (Sail and two mahi were released btw).

...And the captain of our boat also owns a surf shop, so the kiddos got surfing lessons.

Overall, fucking beautiful.
Cheap...No, American pricing on everything.
We ate at one shithole (and it was really) that was 88 bucks!
Do it again? in a heartbeat.
