My adventures of screwing up rope-seats might finally have come to an end. Just need to sand that last flow coat and varnish. The black walnut is quite the dark contrast, so I replaced a few other bote parts which were previously mahogany with walnut, in which I’ll post when everything’s finished. I’m happy with it, and I’m pretty sure If we ever get nuked it’ll be this rope seat and the termites left.
In other relates, I finally was able to take my dad out on the shoe. I’ve been tying to get him to come to the river with me for years. In his defense I always ask him when it’s 20 degrees in deer season to come.
Anyways, he makes it about 200 yards from the boat launch and lands da-tirdy on a rapala. I’ve only seen da-tirdy-inch-trout in my dreams before this, so it was pretty surreal seeing my dad grinning ear to ear holding it. After the crazy fight, it barley fitting in my boat net, and a few pictures he let it go and it’s giant tail fin drenched the both of us. I figured it was in the ‘big enough’ category so didn’t get any measurements. We just starred at the water where it disappeared and said the only thing we could think of at the time-
I told him I was probably going to go my entire life in fly fishing without seeing a fish like that. To which he replied:
“well why don’t you just fish a rapala then?”
