I'll have to get back that way and check it out. I left MD before I really got into fly fishing. Most of my time there was spent catching salamanders and frogs then showing them to the girl next door. She squealed. A lot.

it must be real relief for girls lime that when its finally just a dick instead of a frog or a salamander boys are always trying to show them.

The song's pretty long, so maybe just turn it up and let it play.

I went back home to the place where I spent my first 18 years.
Crabs are mandatory on any visit.

A highlight on this trip was my return to "the woods." That's what we called it.
Just, "the woods."
This is what we did instead of playing video games.
Within a hundred yards of where I took these pictures I; stashed beatup porno mags, got shot at by older kids with BB guns, stole someone's bike, smoked my first smoke, hid knives in a hole in a tree, watched deer, got high for the first time, kissed a young girl, had a horrible bike crash, petted a wild fox, lit things on fire, and did all the normal things a boy does between the ages of 5 and 18.

I had forgotten about the skunk cabbage.

But the thing I really wanted to see was the creek.

I saw the name of it on a map once, but I forgot it a long time ago.
This inconspicuous little trickle has had immeasurable impact on my life. Without it, I would not be who I am now. We spent countless hours playing down there. No one could catch the dace, shiners, crayfish, frogs, salamanders, and snakes like my little friends and I could. We had that shit down to a science. We knew all the best holes and we knew every inch of that place. All we needed was a bike, some muck boots, butterfly nets, and maybe a bucket.

As I've gotten older, I've realized that I do pretty much the same things for fun that I did when I was 10.
I play around in creeks and check out the things that live there.

It was really good to see this old friend again.[/report]

That is poetry. Reflects my childhood. Walking back from the creek with one shoe as the other got lost in the muck or frozen blocks of boots and jeans when the ice invariably broke through in winter. Bringing home baby rabbits that my mom would feed mixed milk and egg through an eye dropper, snakes, kildeer and all sorts of critters. The really fulfilling thing now is to introduce my boys to the same. There is the field - go explore, only rule is to not walk with your knife open. A few weekends ago we let some panfish go into a runoff pond dug a few years ago to hold the neighborhood's culvert over flow. They now think that is their pond and have this ownership/stewardship feel toward it.
