what'd i do last? bass?



the southern drake main page brookie stuff of late put the ants in me pants for some trout fishing. welcome break from pike to use a wee little rod. i got lucky......



i could wet wade in the low water of june, but it was cold enough that though i worked up a sweat creeping around in there i had to put the foot heater on for the ride home. water still cold, the annual wet wade for me is a kiss goodbye. see you guys in the fall when its ok to fish for you again. best luck through the warm warm summer.

Back during the recession I strung together a couple short-term conservation biology gigs between undergrad and going back to school. Mostly documenting the steady decline of obscure critters, the things that lose out to hog farms and shopping malls. Precious few opportunities to stem the tide, mostly collecting data and handing it off to policymakers, hoping myriad special interests can compromise, or aren’t paying too much attention.


One of the projects involved toting a couple gallons of rotenone and plastic tubs of potassium permanganate around a small western stream for a week, eliminating planted rainbows to restore native cutthroat. I hadn’t been back to see how the project fared.

Found a more a accessible place and tried out some bells and whistles.
