[report]October.
Stonefly time.

I was doing well on rubberlegs today, then in the last hole I discovered I had some of the swap stones with me.

Bruiser caught a few.

Sent a txt about some weekday fishing. Plans were made. It was cold. There was a lot of ice in the water. We made due.

I was told no stopping in the shade - too cold. Fun though.

The ice finally started to give way just enough to drop a bobber. Many fish were eventually caught.

Hells bells. Stones were working - especially those from Average Joe and Overbrook. Thanks guys.

Mandatory stop to warm the feet in the hot trough.

Solid day of winter fishing.

We were treated to this on the way out.

Thanks for the last float of the year, CE.

Twas pretty epic. Or was it tactical?

Either way, you'd have enjoyed the fish, fried chicken and brown water.

[report]Greenback and I have this weird thing where we only fish together in the winter. I've never seen the dude wade wet. We are neoprene compadres.

Without a doubt, early and late season floats are my favorite. It's a different river.

Our local sees a fuckload of use in during pleasant weather. But it's winter here for 8 months a year, and this isn't a tailwater that doesn't freeze, so there are shoulder seasons that see few anglers and almost no boat traffic. That's probably because the weather most often sucks, it's cold as balls, and there is risk. The river may be frozen. It's hard to get details of conditions when the river is on the verge of locking up for the next few months. The only way to find out if it's a go, is to go.

And therein lies the satisfaction. It worked. We did it, seemingly against all odds. And when it works we get to see the river in a way that not many people do.

When we shoved off, it was grim. The water was more solid was liquid and it was maybe 5 or 10 degrees. But the sun was out, we were in a boat with some fishing rods, and there was nobody else around. Even if we never made a cast, it would be a good time. But deep down, I think we both knew we would catch some fish that day.
