Galway Extractor (variation)



Stretched out the body and changed the color scheme a bit for an October Caddis. Dyeing, except for the deer hair, accomplished with 2 packs orange Koolaid.

strip woodduck from stem, measure (gap width past bend), fold, tie in










tie in braid, wrap forward, tie off/trim (not sure what's chewing the thread up; polished the bobbin tube on Monday)






flip the fly over, measure (tips to point) a sparse clump of calftail; tie in/trim






measure (tips past tail) another clump of calftail; tie in/trim






prep hackles (2 per side), measure (even with underwing); tie in/trim






measure (tip to bend) a barred woodduck segment




tie in/trim, whip finish, SHHAN (tempted to replace the split woodduck but figure it'll look a lot worse after the first fish hits it)

Ermine Moth








A vintage pattern attributed to the Rev. Edward Powell. Instructions also call for it be tied with opposing partridge hackles; I prefer this Jingler variation. With a few mods, this would make a decent Spruce Moth.

An Irish lough pattern. Original was tied with a tail of cat (Hector) fur and French partridge collar; lacking that, I subbed possum tail and put the chuckar skin to use.
