kind of self-explanatory, right? We seem to have some impressive thread-wrappers that lurk around this board. let's try to keep your "first booger" posts at a minimum.

J’s Hi Tie October Caddis (variation)

Image

Image

Image

Same tying sequence as the Mikulak Sedgehog minus the tail; added a head and legs to the original, since bugs have heads and legs. A trailer tie in poor light so a bit rough around the edges, but it should fish; would have used brown rubber for the legs but I forgot to bring it.

hook - Dai Riki 300 #8
thread - UTC 140 hot orange
wing(s) - deer hair
body/head - 1mm foam orange
legs - medium rubber orange
hackle - brown/ginger

A few minor changes to the original. Thicker mono core to give the extended body a bit more support and lighter color foam for the wingcase/head.

thread/rib - UTC 140 burnt orange
core - 30lb mono
abdomen - 2mm foam rust
wing case/head - 1mm foam

One more time around the old плут оса chassis.
Be comfortable in your manhood; pink is a killer color. Considered adding rubber legs but thought that might be a bit too garish.

hook – Dai Riki 135 #8
thread/rib - UTC 140 hot pink
core - 30lb mono
underbody - moose mane
abdomen - 2mm foam pink
wing case/head - 1mm foam grey

Midgar Bomber DHH variation

Image

It was a bitch to spin deer hair on that substrate, so I cheated. October Caddis in this size; bigger iron for a salmonfly

hook – Mustad 94840 #8
thread/rib - UTC 140 burnt orange
tail - fox squirrel tail
butt/head - 2mm foam rust
body/hackle - deer hair dyed orange

Tail/butt/head sequence is the same as the traditional Midgar so we’ll skip those steps

Create a thread loop, wax; clean, stack, measure (1.5 gap width) a clump of deer hair; insert in clip, trim butts

Image

Insert clip in loop, release, spin

Image

Image

Image

Wet fingers, stroke fibers back, wrap hackle

Image

Repeat as needed; half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Rio’s Steelhead Plow (variation)

Image

Hopper/caddis/stonefly/meat. The original appears to have been built on a foam sandwich oriented in the horizontal plane (I guess they bisected it dorsi-ventral to achieve the split legs); tried it here in the vertical plane. Downsized here for trouts.

hook – Dai Riki 300 #8
thread/rib - UTC 140 burnt orange
underbody - dubbing rust
body/head- 2mm foam rust
flash - Krystal Flash orange
hackle - grizzly dyed orange (1Tbs Rit Sunshine Orange/1 cup water)

Take foam strip (gap width - probably a bit too wide; maybe 80% next time), fold in half to crease, brush Super Glue on first 1/4” or so, fold and hold until the glue sets; cut to shape, tapering underside at front and back

Mash barb, start thread, wrap to bend

A pretty versatile chassis; hoping the heavier iron provides some balance to all that foam.
