[report]Sunday was the big clean up. By the looks of it, over 250 people and close to a hundred rafts, IK's, canoes and kayaks hit the water for the cleanup. The river was running huge thanks to the heavy rains we'd had all week. The normally tame river was sporting some nice holes and waves. When the day was done we'd pulled enough trash from the river to over fill a 40yd roll-off dumpster. Wolly, Cheebs, Will Rice and I pulled 15 or so 50 gallon bags loaded to the breaking point. Afterwards we dined on some pulled pork sandwiches courtesy of the fine folks at Down River Equipment and free beers from Oskar Blues.

Here's the pics I've got for now, I'll have more once some folks email em to me and hopefully cheebs will add a few to the mix.

Some of the IK's and canoes had some trouble, this poor bloke took a swim in the open sewer, hopefully he kept his mouth closed.

The big water made for some big waves under the flood control dams.

You could hear the roar of the dam at Florida ave from a few hundred yards away. The crew was scared, there was some talk of portaging, but I wasn't having any of that.

Everyone was all grins and smiles all day long. It was good to see so many different people taking an interest in the river and donating their time to help out. Hopefully the effort will continue to grow to the point where the cleanup is no longer necessary. Until then, I'll be counting the days till next years event. :cool[/report]

Slave,

those are really good pics.

It's probably a good time to start arguing about the carpslam. Although he may not publicly admit it, STFR has been a huge help with planning for the Carplsam as has Will.

This year, it will be a two day event on 8/21 & 8/22. For more information, please visit http://www.carpslam.org/. This years event promises to bring more awareness, more fun and more opportunities to participate. Hope to see you there.

Where were all the carpslam dewds during the cleanup? I didnt see a ton of anglers participating in the cleanup and that was disapointing.

I hear you. I'm guilty for not being there as well. Our chapter participates on the southplatte river sweep with the Greenway foundation & REI, and support is better if asked only once. Hopefully, as the visibility of the fishery is increased, the energy about cleaning it up will also.
