The whole craze, like most others, is just a bunch of people who don't know any better being told what they need to buy to catch fish. Walking into some shops these days you'd think nobody caught trout on nymphs until a few months ago. Before this it was micro speys, before that it was 8.9ft streamer rods. I'm all for owning too many fly rods but like clothes and haircuts, I try to avoid things that can be spotted in a photo and immediately date stamped.

i admit i'm all about the euro rods. i got gifted a 10' #4 by a friend of mine from our local tuesday tying club. i fought it off for a couple years and caught fish on my little glass rods the way i always did before. no one told me what i needed to do, but my buddy told me i could catch on that rod and i should try it. i never really did, until this winter/spring.

i gave it a real shot, and found its a great tool for fishing the small streams i like in certain conditions. just another arrow in my quiver and one that put a decent number of fish in my net this year. euro allowed me to present to fish in lies i couldn't really present well to without it. i found the fish in those lies i knew were there before but couldn't get more than a 4" drift by or whatever.

i enjoyed it. still won't tenkara. will do it again when the spirit moves me and i wanna see that indicator bounce.





bring a 2nd rod for the streamer, keep it sexy ass glass with a gankadank fly.































LTFI - i'd rather fish them mice for bass, but in february and march i'll fish bout anything for anything. even if it means i'm standing on ice to do it. least the water's moving when i'm hitting euro spots.

I've fished 10 footers for years, I guess I just don't see them as "euro" rods. The guys I fished with, who were much better anglers, all fished longer rods and wade fished. That was the kind of fishing I gravitated towards. I love that 10' 4wt for what I do. I swung softies most of the day and fished pmd's just before dark, handles both with ease. Streamers too, having the extra reach to high stick meat into buckets and make bigger mends on longer casts.



Its the 11'+ 2 and 3 wts that are everywhere these day. :wink

Its starting to heat up around here, decided to leave the rods alone and just go for a swim. My friend gifted me his old gopro last year when he upgraded. I threw it in a tote with some other summer swimming shit and had forgotten about it...Dug in the tote today looking for my snorkel and found it, threw it on the charger and god and I took it for a spin.
