Thumbing Through Some SBSs

kind of self-explanatory, right? We seem to have some impressive thread-wrappers that lurk around this board. let's try to keep your "first booger" posts at a minimum.

Conba's Telephone Fly #1 (variant)

Image

Image

Image

Apparently the original Telephone fly came about from a late-night conversation between 2 somewhat inebriated gentleman. Although the colors can change, the main ingredients are floss butt, gp crest tail, 2 hackles of differing colors, jay (or sub) shoulder and bronze mallard wing and hackle. As you can see I forgot the floss tag on this one - the pic on Hans site doesn't have it but the recipe does; if I have a few minutes (packing up for the trip west so it may have to wait a while), I'll try a proper one.

hook - Mustad 3906 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tag - Danville Depth Ray fire orange (missing)
tail - golden pheasant crest
rib - oval tinsel gold
body - dubbing pale olive
body hackle - yellow/red
shoulder hackle - Mearns Quail (jay substitute) dyed blue (Regatta - 3/4 Tsp Rit Aquamarine, 1/4 Tsp Rit Royal Blue/4 cups water)
wing - bronze mallard

Added the tag for a proper version. Wing on this one is rolled/folded as opposed to stacked/pinched on the first one because not all bronze mallard is alike.
I'd be ready when my feet touch ground

Wyatt’s Smithy (variation)

Image

A U.K. Seatrout pattern; original called for tail of golden pheasant crest dyed red but, since I just set up shop in Stumptown, I haven’t had time to heat up the dye bath yet. Muscle memory is shot; this is a good pattern to get the neurons firing again. Need to re-think my lighting options; this won’t do.

hook - Mustad 3906 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 brown
tail - bleached pheasant tail dyed claret (1 Tbs Rit Wine/1 cup water)
rib - small wire silver
body - tinsel silver
body hackle - badger
shoulder hackle - hen pheasant
I'd be ready when my feet touch ground
Wherever I come down

Nowak’s Muskrat Bumble

A B.C. pattern; seeing this as a tailwater scud/sowbug. Something to tie when you get bored of Firebead Ray Charles; weight optional.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #12
thread/tag - Danville 6/0 fire orange
body - dubbing muskrat
hackle - hen badger
collar - partridge

Does possum make a stiff enough wing?
