I packed a sammich and drove 914 miles.
When people think of fishing the Eastern Sierra, they usually think granite peaks, aspen, and endless azure skies- kinda like Hemingway prose. I aim a little lower. A lot lower. Like a canyon deep in the high desert sage.
Because down in the bottom amongst rattlesnakes, stinging nettle, and endless scree scrambling lies a really, really nice small stream fishery. Beauty is a bonus.
The citizens were willing and put a hard bend in my old 1wt. Fish after fish after fish... Just ridiculous.
Stayed with Papasequoia, and a gathering of guys Ive fished with for close to 15 years. Enjoyed good beers, good food. Good company.
3 days in that gorge. Can’t wait til next time.
